Would Chris Hemsworth Play James Bond? Here's What He Says
It's an exciting time for blockbusters, and both the James Bond franchise and Marvel Cinematic Universe are on the edge of a precipice. With the end of Phase Three of the MCU, it's unclear if Chris Hemsworth and the other OG stars will continue into the next set of films. Additionally, Daniel Craig seems to be doing one last film as Jame Bond, before retiring from 007. With this fortuitous timing, it seems like an actor like Hemsworth would be a great choice to take up the mantle. Given his natural charm and action background, he could be a great choice. But would he be interested?
Yeah, I mean, I think any actor would jump at that opportunity. I'm certainly a fan. A whole lot of pressure comes with that, though. I think the Bond fan base is probably more critical than the comic book fanbase. I don't know, there's plenty of guys who could do a better job than I would. Plenty of English men, and women.
It looks like Chris Hemsworth might be down to take on the role of 007 in the future, which is enough to make any Marvel fan squeal with joy. But now the question is, how much of a possibility is it?
Chris Hemsworth's comments are definitely exciting, but shouldn't be the cause for too much excitement. James Bond has always been played by British men, and it's unclear if that's going to chance anytime soon. While the acclaimed Australian actor can certainly pull of the accent, the franchise may want to continue the tradition of a British actor playing the role. This point is something that Hemsworth specifically mentions during his appearance on the Australian news program Sunrise.
The actor also notes that a women could play the role, which is a campaign that has been growing over the past few years. X-Files actress Gillian Anderson has been one vocal champion for the cause, campaigning to play the role himself. Chris Hemsworth has actually nominated Charlize Theron, especially after Atomic Blonde. Again, neither of these actresses are British. Additionally, it's not clear if a female Bond is on the table. Roger Moore certainly isn't a fan.
But Chris Hemsworth may have the time slot opening up to lead a new franchise. His contact with Marvel Studios is up after Avengers 4, leading the future of the Thor franchise a mystery. It's unclear if Thor managed to survive the battle against Thanos, although the hero has gained a bit more popularity in the wake of Thor: Ragnarok. Hemsworth was able to flex more of his comedic muscles, and might be inclined to return for a new deal. We'll just have to wait and see.
