Some Star Wars Fans Are Mad At Ron Howard About A Tweet

It's certainly an exciting time to be a Star Wars fan. Disney has been popping out blockbusters regularly, and this year has been no exception. Just a few months after the release of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, the franchise's second standalone film arrived with Solo: A Star Wars Story. Both of those movies have been met with mixed reactions from the fans, who are hyper critical with every frame of the galaxy far, far away. The Last Jedi was certainly divisive due to its unexpected plot twists, and now it seems like Ron Howard unwittingly co-signed the movie's criticism. Howard recently responded (and retweeted) a fan who had praise for Solo. There's just one thing: the tweet also takes a jab at The Last Jedi. Check out the original post below,

While mostly chock full of praise for Han Solo's original movie, the last line of the tweet indicates that The Last Jedi wasn't quite up to snuff. It doesn't actually go after any aspects of Rian Johnson's subversive sequel, but it's clear that particular fan wasn't into it. Ron Howard responded with thanks for the kind words, but many Star Wars fans out there couldn't help but notice the Last Jedi dig in the original compliment.

Plenty of fans have noticed this part of Ron Howard's tweet, and therefore have taken it to be a dig at the most previous main Star Wars installment. This of course would be rather out of character for acclaimed director, who isn't one to throw shade at other movies. But the criticism of The Last Jedi is there, whether or not Howard intended to diss another flick from the beloved property. Those who loved The Last Jedi might take umbrage with this, as if Howard is pitting the films against each other. And like everything else on Twitter, people are getting outraged about it. When Star Wars: The Last Jedi arrived in theaters this past December, it got plenty of flack from the Star Wars purists out there. Rian Johnson purposefully went against all expectations for the film, challenging the fandom about what the universe was capable of. While critics seemed to appreciate the risk taking and surprising story, it's one of the most polarizing films in the entire franchise.
