Jason Momoa Just Shared Some Aquaman Trailer News In The Most Momoa Way Possible
Following his introduction in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and his full debut in Justice League, Jason Momoa's Aquaman is swimming back to the silver screen to lead his own movie. In recent months, numerous DC Comics fans have been wondering when the first Aquaman trailer would premiere, and it was finally confirmed recently by director James Wan that the preview will finally debut tomorrow during San Diego Comic-Con. But in case you missed that news, Momoa has shared it in the most Momoa way possible: underwater. You can see what I mean, below.
Taking to his Instagram page, Jason Momoa shared this video he recorded a couple weeks ago while back home in Hawaii, but the visit wasn't just to reconnect with family and friends. Like the DC Comics hero he plays, Momoa is a skilled swimmer, and he proceeded to jump off the cliff and into the water with his phone to deliver a special message: that the Aquaman trailer premieres to the masses tomorrow. It was a cool moment, but frankly a waste of a perfectly good phone, though one can logically surmise that the folks at Warner Bros gave Momoa a throwaway phone rather than forced him to sacrifice his own. That dive also looked like it might have been painful, but hey, anything for marketing, right?
It's been a particularly long road to Aquaman. The movie kicked off principal photography in May 2017 and concluded in October of the same year. Like most superhero movies, Aquaman has dedicated a lot of time to post-production, and with a movie like Aquaman, which is primarily set underwater, VFX are key. Outside of a few promo shots of Jason Momoa as Arthur Curry, it's only been in the last couple weeks that official Aquaman images have started to trickle in, showing things like Black Manta with his freaky-looking helmet, The Fisherman King (who rules one of Atlantis' seven kingdoms) and even a giant sea dragon! But nothing compares to seeing that first trailer, and now we're only a day away from seeing that first footage.
Set after the events of Justice League, Aquaman sees Arthur Curry finally embracing his royal duties, only to be caught in a battle between surface dwellers who threaten the oceans, like Black Manta, and Atlantans who wish to conquer the surface, like Arthur's half-brother Orm, a.k.a. Ocean Master. The movie's supporting cast includes Amber Heard as Mera, Willem Dafoe as Vulko, Patrick Wilson as Ocean Master, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta, Nicole Kidman as Atlanna and Dolph Lundgren as Nereus.
