One Big Change Well See In The Guardians Of The Galaxy In Avengers: Infinity War
Needless to say, there are going to be spoilers in the following article, so turn back now if you want to head into Avengers: Infinity War knowing nothing at all.
Some of us Marvel nerds pay super close attention to the MCU timeline. We lobe breaking down when movies happen in the grand thrust of the overarching MCU narrative, and love when Marvel introduces wrinkles, as when Captain Marvel rewinds us back to the 1990s, or the Guardians of the Galaxy start their sequel mere months after the conclusion of their origin story. Since that movie's story takes place in or around 2014, and the sequel comes out right after, that means that several unseen years will have passed in the MCU between the conclusion of James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and the beginning of Avengers: Infinity War. So when CinemaBlend visited the Atlanta set of Joe and Anthony Russo's pending blockbuster, we asked about the Guardians and learned the following:
Anthony Russo: There are some changes...Joe Russo: Groot has grown.Anthony Russo: But I think changes are about chemistry and about camaraderie, and the fact that they're closer, and they're tighter, and they've been doing it for a while. That's, if there's any change, it's in that when they may or may not intersect with the Avengers in this movie, they have cemented their chemistry as a team.Joe Russo: The relationships have deepened.Anthony Russo: And they would stand in contrast with the other teams. Potentially.
That's an intriguing contradiction. If and when the Guardians of the Galaxy find their way to Earth, they are going to encounter an Avengers team that has just endured a self-inflicted Civil War (OK, so, Zemo stirred the pot, but you get the idea). The Avengers will find a way to work together, but if they encounter Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) and his team, they will apparently be impressed by a well-oiled machine that has been traipsing around the galaxy, helping people and completing missions. They also are going to encounter two sisters who have a bone to pick with daddy (Josh Brolin).
We know for sure (based on the photo above, and footage that we saw at San Diego Comic-Con) that the Guardians of the Galaxy will encounter Thor (Chris Hemsworth), probably following the God of Thunder's battle with Thanos that was teased in the final credits of Thor: Ragnarok. From there, the Guardians will go on a mission with Thor, but I also have seen footage from Infinity War that shows Star-Lord collaborating with Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch), so we'll find out eventually how the paths of these heroes will ultimately cross.
Avengers: Infinity War hits theaters on April 27. More set visit content is on its way. In the meantime, bookmark our Upcoming Marvel Movies guide to stay up to date on all of the relevant happenings in the MCU.
