What The 'Antourage' Will Be Doing During Ant-Man And The Wasp
Scott Lang was the star of Ant-Man, and Hope van Dyne and Hank Pym taught him how to shrink and communicate with ants, but if Luis, Dave and Kurt hadn't been around, the movie's climactic heist would have been a disaster. Although they were criminals like Scott, the trio, unofficially known as the 'Antourage' (or, if you ask Hank, the "three wombats"), used their respective skills to help save the day, and they'll be back next month for Ant-Man and the Wasp. There hasn't been much footage released of the 'Antourage' in the sequel, but David Dastmalchian, who plays computer whiz Kurt, has revealed that when we reunite with these colorful characters, they've left their lawbreaking ways behind and have set up their own security company. In Dastmalchian's words:
So we are the 'Antourage.' It's me, TI and Michael Pea. We are Dave, Luis and Kurt, which is the character that I played in the first film. You know, Dave was the wheels guy, Luis was the intel guy and Kurt was the tech guy. Well, we've taken this positive experience that we had working for Scott Lang and helping him in something, you know, helpful for once in our lives, and we found a new place in society. And it's exciting for us because we thought we were un-hirable ex cons in the last film, and now we're part of a family. We have found acceptance. We found that we can do something really positive with their lives. So we've opened this security company, and we're a legitimate business in San Francisco. And we are getting ready to really kick in. We are grateful for our path. It was exciting to be a part of that, to be a part of Ant-Man's beginnings. But, you know, since Civil War, etc, like all that's kind of in the past now, and here we are ready to be just legitimate business owners. And, then of course, all of a sudden the past comes roaring back into our lives, and Scott... he has to do some very important things, and his skills and powers as Ant-Man are needed. So we by proxy, because we are family, are going to help. and what we thought was going to be a simple year kicking off our business is now turns into a very complicated and exciting adventure.
I recently had the pleasure of speaking with David Dastmalchian about his career, and when the conversation turned to Ant-Man and the Wasp, the actor provided the above explanation regarding what we can expect from Kurt, Luis, played by Michael Pea, and Dave, played by T.I., in the upcoming sequel. While these three characters were by no means evil in Ant-Man and actually provided many of the movie's funny moments (I still get a kick out of hearing Dastmalchian's Kurt say, "This is the work of gypsies!" after seeing Scott shrink), initially they were all-too keen on making their money dishonestly. But evidently their experience with helping Scott was the first step to turning their lives around, and now they're using their respective skills to run this company, which is called X-Con. But as is often the case in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, things don't stay calm for long, and eventually the old crew will have to re-form in order to deal with whatever Ghost and the movie's other villains have in store.
Other than seeing Luis, Dave and Kurt in their security company's office, the only clue as to how the 'Antourage' will be used in Ant-Man and the Wasp is Luis has been seen in a van with Hope carrying the shrunken Pym Labs building and freaking out as they shrink and grow back to normal. Like last time, we can presumably count on Dave behind the wheel of a different vehicle and Kurt typing away on a computer, but with the added resources of Ex-Con, ideally this means that those two and Luis will be even more helpful during this mission, and all while helping lighten the mood here and there.
